Windows 10 is now ready to run on more than 900 million devices, which brings it closer to the important milestones of running on 1 billion devices. Yusuf Mehdi, vice president of Microsoft Corporation, announced today that the operating system has reached a new milestone, and Windows 10 is expected to run on 1 billion devices by 2020.
Microsoft's original goal was to get Windows 10 to run on 1 billion devices within three years of the release of the operating system. Part of the reason the company failed to meet this goal was the failure of Windows 10 Mobile, but Windows 10 is still expected to run on 1 billion devices sometime in 2020. Mehdi emphasized that Windows 10 can run headsets, Xbox One consoles and Surface Hub devices on a variety of devices including PCs and HoloLens.
Six months ago, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 had reached a milestone on 800 million devices. This milestone is only six months after Windows 10 reached 700 million device milestones. According to Microsoft, the number of new Windows 10 devices seen in the past 12 months has exceeded any one year. If these trends continue, Windows 10 will easily run on 1 billion devices at some point in 2020.
Windows 10 continues to grow at an alarming rate, and this growth is likely to continue as Microsoft abandons support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020. This will cause many businesses to switch to Windows 10.
